Born in Colombia in 1953, Cecilia del Toro is a very versatile
artist who masters oil painting, jewelry and metal smith, pen and ink, glass,
ceramic
and porcelain painting. She was a general practitioner and surgeon
in her native country for more than 25 years, but her love for all arts in
general made her to switch professions and evolve into an excellent artist.
She started
her art training in Hamburg, Germany, as a porcelain painter.
In 2003 Cecilia moved to Rockville, MD, where she attended Montgomery College
to obtained a BA in Arts and Sciences. While still being a student at Montgomery
College she received several awards for her artistic work, specially in the
areas of painting and jewelry.
An important feature of Cecilia's work is the strong use of sunlight and color.
She says about herself that "perhaps my main characteristic is the intense
use of light and color. They are very important to me and my work, because
light and color reflect my inner life, which is full of them as well as full
of love-- Love for Nature and all its creatures".
