Carl Heldt has designed everything from trademarks to toys,
from tape records to car-safety devices. Heldt has always liked a challenge.
He has accepted commissions to illustrate books, design greeting cards, stained
glass windows, church altars and baptismal fonts. Heldt has 45 murals in
nine states, executed in various media. However, as he will always tell you,
painting is his first love. To Heldt, painting is color. His meld of colors
and the expressionistic focus of his art has attracted broad attention.
There is no straight line between his early paintings and his
late work. Heldt pursued several other directions along the way including
metal sculpture and wood murals.
Heldt has said, "What I do and what media I will work
in depends entirely on the reality of the moment."
He believes in himself and his own ability to express emotion
through color, and to that end he continues to paint.
Having taught at the University of Illinois earlier
in his career, Heldt is currently Professor Emeritus of Art at the University
of
Arizona. He is listed in Who's Who in the West and Who's Who
in American
Art. Over 45 public institutions and 150 private collectors own his paintings,
testimony to the sensuality and joy of his color-layered impastos.
